Certification is a guarantee that the raw material comes from a production process that is managed in an environmentally appropriate manner, which is socially fair and economically viable, according to the principles established by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or to the Brazilian Forest Management Council. The FSC is a global organization that develops principles and criteria to be followed, accrediting programs and certifying agencies, acting in all continents for the promotion of RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT of natural and planted forests.
The advantage is to be sure that a product’s quality comes from sustainable forest production systems, which are managed in an environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable manner; that such production occurs without degradation of the environment, respecting work relationships and conditions and local communities, with MAN as the central piece of the process, but generating sufficient economic results to ensure the maintenance and improvement of natural and social resources.
All wood products sold by FLOSUL come from the company’s own forests, using genetic material originated from selected location and tested throughout the years, and which today are completely adapted to the climate in the region.
Kiln-dried sawn wood is wood that is dried in a conventional kiln. In this method, there is complete control over all variables in the process: temperature, relative humidity, and air speed, which makes it possible to eliminate defects that occur during drying, such as warping and cracking. Air-dried sawn wood is a product that is dried in the open. In this process, it is difficult to reach low levels of humidity due to the high energy requirements and dependence on weather conditions to control variables such as temperature and relative humidity. Green wood is a product that is not subjected to any drying treatment.
Chemically treating the wood with CCA provides high durability and safety. The chemical components of CCA (copper, chromium, and arsenic) penetrate and fill the cell walls, attaching to them so as to protect against termites, borers, weevils, and fungi.
Stain finishes penetrate the wood, providing a layer of protection against rain, sunlight, and heat; improves durability and does not peel off; increases the wood’s resistance to the effects of humidity, fungi, and mold; and helps prevent cracks and scratches on your wooden deck. We recommend Sayerlack stains, varnishes, and enamels.
FLOSUL takes all measures to provide a final product with an estimated durability that conforms to NBR 8456 standard (though the product guarantee is for 15 years). The life of the products can be extended by adopting a preventive maintenance program with periodical inspections (usually starting on the eighth year) and, if applicable, the use of curative measures.
